LISTEN UP
ALL YOU CREATIVE CATS !
If you're searching
for a label that will understand your burgeoning creative sound---
If you're looking
for a producer who will actually work with you---
If you're looking
for a company that will distribute your CD to break out your
innovative talent---
Then, in the
words of singer-songwriter, Charles Wright, of Express Yourself
and Do Your Thing fame and the producer of Slim's latest CD,
"this just might be the right place at the right time for
you."
South Side
Records is putting out the call for fresh talent and is currently
poised to record some new sounds. Newly named president, Henry
Harris (aka South Side Slim), has assumed creative control. Harris
is taking SSR beyond its blues origins. Now after 49 years of
life Slim has come to realize that there is more than one perspective
for authentic musical expression. Although he'll always love
and play the blues, South Side Slim's greatest commitment has
always been to foster the talent of under recognized musicians,
no matter what their genre.
South Side
Records Los Angeles now wants to expand that commitment to under
represented Rock, R&B, Jazz and Hip Hop artists. And, of
course, the Blues as well.
Since the expansion
is a new venture, you could be one of the first to get your shot.
That was the case with South Side Slim when he was the first
artist to be signed by Jerry Rosen back in those first days at
South Side Records Los Angeles. With guaranteed distribution
through a national company the dream of seeing your CD in stores
and on the internet would come true.
Henry Harris
and South Side Records have the reputation, the history and the
musical savvy to support and promote the careers of musicians
who take risks and who push the boundaries of their talents.
Age is not the issue; a creative vibe and a tenacity to build
one's talent is what's it's all about. Musicians at South Side
Records might include---
- A close-to-the-street
harmonica ingénue having barely left his teens
- Some of the
fresh talent at South Central Los Angeles' hottest juke joint,
The Barn Yard, or hip Temple Bar sorting out their 20's and 30's
- The almost,
if not quite, octogenarians jamming alongside Micky Champion,
under the watchful eye of Miss Laura Mae Gross, at Babe's and
Ricky's in Leimert Park
South Side
Slim is on a mission. A mission to encourage. A mission to give
others the opportunities with which he has been so richly blessed.
Henry Harris
(aka South Side Slim) comes to the helm of South Side Records
with a rich life history and a musical sensibility well-honed
by an amazing array of fortuitous experiences :
South Side
Slim has the legacy of bringing to the light all sorts of musicians
over the last eight years like, Bill Clark, Curtis Tillman, Oklahoma
Ollie, Deacon Jones, Hollis Gilmore, Ray Bailey
South Side
Slim has a rich heritage, a musical ear, a radical political
stance, an impatient intelligence, a rebellious spirit, a recognition
and connection with all things authentic and full of soul.
South Side
Slim cuts through industry rhetoric. He is intolerant of pretence
and one-up-man-ship.
South Side
Slim has always shown and promoted respect for the old forms
as well as the new.

South
Side Records is now looking for a female blues singer to build a band around
for touring, local gigs (in the Los Angeles area), and possible
record contract. |
South Side
Slim has the know-how of producing and co-producing numerous
CD's including--- 5 Steps, Raising Hell, More Blues from the
South Side, Live at the Alley, Trouble on the South Side
South Side
Slim has the heart. Harris has a deep gut-caring for the under-represented.
He knows what it's like to be homeless, to be down and out, to
feel like there's no one who will understand what you're trying
to create. Like the great Lowell Fulsom told Slim one day: "Blues
ain't nothin' but a low down shaky chill. Ain't never had 'em?
Then I hope you never will."
Slim has reached
out to many musicians, including, Smokey Wilson, Curtis Tillman,
Mary Dukes, JT Ross, Detroit's Harmonica Shah to give them a
chance to be recorded and to be heard by a broader fan base.
South Side
Slim has the recognition and reputation. Henry Harris (aka South
Side Slim) was the Los Angeles Weekly's winner for Most Outstanding
Blues and R&B Musician of 2004.
Slim has toured
extensively. He received standing ovations at the Pocono Blues
Festival and the North Atlantic Blues Festival.
South Side
Slim is included with rave reviews in Music Hound Blues The
Essential Album Guide (2002). Over fifteen international
publications strongly commend his latest CD, Trouble on the
South Side as well as the increasingly popular Raising
Hell. Last year Living Blues Magazine acclaimed South
Side Slim "the formidable guitar modernist."
South Side
Slim has the connections. South Side has often been at the right
place at the right time to make some amazing connections that
have enabled him to develop his talents as a producer, promoter,
performer, singer-songwriter, guitarist, mentor for young players,
an enabler for older men and women with limited exposure.
South Side
Slim's life is full of the stories of his meeting up with and
touching the lives of the likes of Otis Rush, Micky Champion,
Shavar Ross, Terrence Howard, Joe Louis Walker, Miguel Nunez,
Jerry Rosen, Miss Laura Mae Gross, Smoky Wilson, Willie McNeil,
Scott Matthews, Scott Bock, Ike Turner, Bob Margolin, Paul Osher,
Guitar Shorty, Pine Top Perkins, Luther Guitar Junior, Sonny
Green, Charles Wright.
Come and connect
your talent with Slim's. South Side Records is not just looking
for performers but also songwriters, engineers, managers and
producers too.
Come join the
South Side Record family. You, too, could be part of this fresh
new adventure. Don't worry about the money. South Side Records
